Group Takes Anti-Corruption Campaign To Islamic Clerics In Kaduna

KADUNA, North-West, Nigeria – In its contribution to the fight against corruption in Nigeria, a group under the auspice of The Just Foundation, on Friday took the anti-corruption campaign crusade to Islamic clerics in Kaduna state.

The group led by the Executive Director of the Foundation, Imam Faud Adeyemi, said corruption has become a menace in Nigeria that has to be address.

Imam Adeyemi said nothing is working in the country today because of corruption which he said it has been institutionalized.

In his response, the President Muslims Council of Nigeria, Alhaji Liadi Olapade, said even though corruption has caused much damages in the country, there is hope now since the campaign against it is coming from the clerics.

He said that the problem of fighting corruption in Nigeria is not the law, but it enforcement.

He called on the Federal Government to met adequate punishment to anybody found wanting.

Similarly, the Special Adviser and Consultant to the Foundation, Imam Mohammed Ashaffa, said the mission and vision of the Foundation is about identifying safe space where we will have zero corruption in the society.

He added that It is about zero corruption from religious perspective. Identifying people who are motivated by faith, and religious convictions within their own safe comfort zones to start activating those tools.

“That is the summary of The Just Foundation coming to Kaduna. That is the key to say religion can be part of the solution in addressing this endemic called corruption either at the financial, educational, political and even our moral and spiritual levels.

“The choice of religious leaders play important role because they have the largest followership in the country, and these followers are majorly not censored.

“That is why the Foundation chose to look at religious leaders at the higher, intermediate and lower levels of the society to be able to bring them together and use them as tools in facilitating and complimenting various efforts of governments both at the local, state and national levels to say it is true if we don’t kill corruption, corruption will kill us,” he stated.
